This is a group level role based in Singapore. Internship | 3 – 6 months

At betterdata, we are masters of our craft, relentless executors, and unconventional thinkers, so we are challenging the notion that data sharing and privacy protection are mutually exclusive. We are building a data and privacy ops platform using state-of-the-art AI generative models with privacy-preserving technologies to help enterprises unlock their data assets without any privacy risks.

Founded in early 2021, we are a fast-growing start-up supported by Entrepreneur First (backed by founders of DeepMind, LinkedIn, and Paypal) with partnerships including NVIDIA and the Asian Institute of Digital Finance (backed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore). We also have a research partnership with National University of Singapore to develop cutting-edge AI and data privacy tools that will keep us at the forefront of technological progress in these domains.

Come join us in our mission! We are helpful, kind, and transparent. Your impactful work will directly enable faster and safer access to data that will be used to create better AI/ML models and data-driven solutions in countless use-cases such as saving lives in personalised medicine, fighting fraud in finance/insurance and improving product recommendations in e-commerce.

Why work with us
betterdata has embarked on a journey to revolutionise how enterprises share data internally and externally. We have taken the first steps and we need passionate people about AI, data, policy, and privacy-preserving technologies to accelerate this journey. Join us if you want to be at the forefront of this change and are excited about working in an organization where we encourage the following. • Skills matter more than age
• Finding fun in what you are doing
• Dedication matters more than hours clocked
• Create a lasting impact by experiencing entrepreneurship first-hand

Who are we looking for
• Motivated undergraduate or polytechnic students with a focus on business, economics, policy, or other relevant areas. You will work on our Marketing and Community Engagement functions together with the CEO. You will take the lead in creative and digital marketing and learn key skills in customer and community management. You also need to have good communication skills to understand the team needs and develop your strategies accordingly.

The problems you will solve
As part of the Founder’s Office, you will be a high-performer in a fast-paced role, working directly with C- suite leaders on some of betterdata’s top priority projects. Your primary mission is to
• drive reactive / proactive engagements with customers and partners on data protection and privacy and more
• articulate betterdata’s positions by building key arguments and fact-based narratives (in written and visual form)
• guide the business team while preserving their right to be flexible and creative
Other strategic projects typically affecting the entire company may be available on an ad-hoc basis, in keeping with the scope of the Founder’s Office.

The impact you will have
This is your career on “adventure mode” as you will directly report to the CEO.
Expect unparalleled immersion in the start-up ecosystem, from strategic to the tactical. The scope (international, spanning policy / advocacy / compliance work) and calibre (C-level interaction) that this role demands are atypical and usually unavailable at the graduate level. This degree of access will be highly valuable to any candidate looking to start their own business and / or get front-row seats to the shifting regulatory landscape in tech.

About you
As conversion is not just a possibility but a desired outcome, fresh / imminent graduates are preferred. You should be able to commit 3+ months to the internship (preferably starting immediately).
• Probably, but not necessarily, a Social Science / Communications / Public Policy student, looking for a challenge beyond the PR / marketing / public service trichotomy.
• Being comfortable in writing any voice and form: a 15k-word white paper, a 1-page press release, or a brief Telegram message.
• Quick to understand and simplify techical/economic/legal language, with attention to tone and nuance.
• Competent in qualitative (and occasionally quantitative) analysis, and capable with slides.
• Able to keep a keen eye on and successfully juggle many ongoing items.
• A joy to work with: on Zoom, in person, and for contractors and Founders alike.

Good to have
• Passion for security and privacy
• Knowledge of basic AI concepts
• Any sales experience
As Andrew Ng said, “Don’t worry about it if you don’t understand”. We know there are a lot of things we listed in what you will be doing and we do not expect you to have all of the skills needed at the start. Each of us at betterdata are learning something new every day – as long as you have the willingness to learn, please apply!

Benefits
• Flexible time-off arrangements
• Flexible work schedule – complete autonomy with no unnecessary meetings that take your time away from building
• Flexible work arrangements – desk space at our office in One North Singapore or fully remote
• Contract will be for 3 – 6 months with an option to continue upon review
